About Us
Shared Future is a family foundation sharing power to re-imagine and re-design philanthropy with communities.
We know it will take the collective efforts of individuals, organizations, foundations, and institutions to make transformative change.
In order to do so, we must be willing to understand the historical exploitation that has created our current conditions; we must be willing to innovate and take risk; we must be willing to take collective action.
Our embedded philanthropy approach focuses on being in deep relationship with the communities, agencies, and groups that we fund as we work collaboratively toward co-designed solutions. By leaning into investing in the “messy middle,” we achieve transformative change
Our hope is that our approach will move us closer toward a prosperous shared future.

Mission + Vision
Shared Future is a family foundation inspiring a more equitable, sustainable, and just future. Our mission is to mobilize resources and solidarity to build collective power for common good.
Our approach is anchored in a deep commitment to our shared humanity and recognizes the well-being of one individual or group is intimately tied to the well-being of all others.
We hope to co-design, incubate, and scale initiatives and interventions in partnership with those closest to the problems. Our work aims to: 1) create pathways for marginalized communities to build wealth and power for self-determination; and 2) create opportunities for advantaged communities to connect, redistribute resources, and find mutual interest in standing in solidarity.

The Challenge

Currently, white supremacy and extreme capitalism are harming our communities and our movements. Divide-and-conquer systems and strategies are destroying people and the planet.
Foundations are replicating these same harmful strategies in their organizations and funding priorities.
Shared Future Foundation is working to re-design philanthropy with others, especially those most impacted by the problem.

Our Work
The Common Ground Model is a framework developed collaboratively by Shared Future Foundation, The Set Community, and Partners and Friends to challenge complex issues and guide community revitalization and regeneration efforts by building the power of residents.
The model advances equity and builds community wealth and power by 1) studying history, uncovering assets, and challenging narratives; 2) identifying people, community-led projects, and community-based stakeholders; and 3) directly investing in people, their places, and their passions.
