Our Work
The Common Ground Model
The Common Ground Model is a framework developed collaboratively by Shared Future Foundation (SFF), The Set Community, and Partners and Friends to challenge complex issues and guide community revitalization and regeneration efforts by building the power of residents.
The model advances equity and builds community wealth and power by 1) studying history, uncovering assets, and challenging narratives; 2) identifying people, community-led projects, and community-based stakeholders; and 3) directly investing in people, their places, and their passions. To support the work, SFF builds a network of outsider allies who are dedicated to learning about advantage, willing to share access to advantage, and able to relinquish control to those most impacted. The model encourages community self-reliance; supports the development of policy platforms; solves problems with community-based solutions; and informs place-based movements.

The Common Ground Model in Action- Delray Beach
Currently SFF is working in The Set, Delray Beach, Florida, a two-square mile community of approximately 1,000 acres in the heart of Delray Beach's coastal downtown. Home to the majority of Delray’s minority population, this strong and resilient community is known for its historical roots, community leaders, multi-generational families, and tight-knit social fabric. The Set also makes up the majority of Delray Beach’s economically depressed population with more than 68% of households and 78% of children living below the poverty line (Community Commons, 2017).

SFF is supporting model implementation in The Set and helps fund a coalition of partners guiding area regeneration. Current projects are in the areas of Community Organizing and Civic Engagement, Legacy Housing and Land Preservation, Community School- Investments & Development, Community Asset Mapping-Investment and Development, and Equitable and Repairable Policy Development. They intersect to create a regenerative ecosystem of opportunity. Learn more at thesetdelray.org/the-coalition/
